In Year 7 English, students have been exploring how to blend the conventions of two different text types. To see how this exists in the world around us, they experimented with food by blending flavours from two different cultures. 

Takumi created his own fusion dish by blending the Japanese snack takoyaki with the Spanish dry-cured ham, jamon, ingredients he selected because of his own cultural background. Takumi explained, “I don’t think the conventions were incompatible because all they were doing was complimenting each other. The jamon supported the flavour of the takoyaki and the mayonnaise then filled the gap to make it even more perfect. Overall, it was incredible”. 

After preparing their dishes, students wrote a response to refine their descriptive and figurative writing skills.
