TES German Kindergarten
Welcome to the Kindergarten of the German School Taipei! Our kindergarten is a place of interaction - where children from the most diverse cultural backgrounds come together, learn and live together.

Our kindergarten at a glance
- At the kindergarten of the German Section we welcome children from the age of 3 until they start school who are in possession of an international passport. Our kindergarten is a meeting place that offers your child a respectful and loving atmosphere and encourages them to develop their personality.
- Around 40 children are cared for in 2 mixed-age groups; we have spacious facilities at our disposal: a quiet and music room, a preschool room, an extensive library, an amphitheater, a children's kitchen, gyms and sports and play areas. The spacious outdoor area invites children to play and experience nature.
- Our professional team consists of a German teacher and a local, multilingual assistant. In addition, a professional German language teacher works in the groups. The preschool is run by the kindergarten coordinator.
- The preschool is part of the kindergarten. The preschool children are specifically prepared for starting school during their time at kindergarten. This is done in cooperation with our primary school.
- Opening hours: Mondays to Fridays from 7:30 am to 3:00 pm
- Vacations are based on the academic calendar of Taipei European School
The Education we offer
"Children should play more than many children do these days.
Because if you play enough when you're young, you have treasures inside you that you can draw on later in life"
Astrid Lindgren
Playing is not "just for fun", it is children's (hard) work. Through free play, children learn everything they need for healthy development. Step by step and appropriate to their age. Purely cognitive learning is not effective at a young age. Children need to "grasp" their world in the truest sense of the word, learning with all their senses and holistically. In order to be ready for the next stage of increasingly cognitive learning.
It is important to us to educate children to be independent and to think for themselves. The children should experience their self-efficacy, which strengthens their personality and makes them more resilient in life.
Our professional team guides your child through this learning process and offers individual, age-appropriate activities in a harmonious and pressure-free environment.
The basis for this is the Thuringian education plan. In our kindergarten, we focus on 7 educational areas of this plan.
These areas of learning are incorporated into the programme and activities of the groups - the aim is to support the children individually in developing competencies in these learning areas.
- Science and technology education
- Language education
- Mathematical education
- Motor and health education
- Musical education
- Artistic-aesthetic education
- Socio-cultural and moral education

Our Pedagogical Approach
Our focus is on the child with all its individual characteristics, needs and abilities. We see ourselves as pedagogical companions of the children, who experience attention, respect and reliability from us in a protected space.
Through trust, we enable the children to build confidence and courage and to become strong. This enables them to accept challenges and to develop on their path of living and learning. We support the children in developing their independence and social skills.
We work in a holistic and situation-oriented way: The topics grow out of the children's experiences or interests and can be discovered by them with all their senses.
"Nothing is in the head that was not first in the senses" - children have to literally grasp things sensually before they can form a concept of them.
We encourage the children's own initiative and curiosity to discover their environment independently and to recognise and understand connections.
We teach the children values, initial knowledge and skills within a secure framework. Through projects, creative and musical activities or free play, they have the opportunity to go on journeys of discovery independently or with guidance and to develop their personality.
Our German Language Support
The language in our kindergarten is German. We also accept children without any knowledge of German.
Our language support staff help the children learn German through a carefully designed programme. In small groups, which are put together according to their language level, or within the entire kindergarten group in the "language bath", the children acquire their first German skills through play.
For our German-speaking children, we have varied language and reading activities on offer.
Our goal is to enable the children to successfully enter primary school - we ensure this with a playful, colourful and cheerful language programme.
