Approaches to Learning
Our world class curricula are designed to provide outstanding learning experiences that spark curiosity, foster independence and inspire our young people to make a positive difference in the world. In all subject areas, teachers in the British Secondary and High School section seek to develop each student as a unique individual. All of our students are supported to become independent, principled and mindful members of the global community.
World Class Curricula
English Key Stage 3 National Curriculum
Students in Years 7, 8 and 9 (ages 11 to 14) broadly follow the English Key Stage 3 National Curriculum; however, the schemes of learning reflect our international profile and local Taiwanese context.
The first three years of Secondary School are crucial to the students’ academic and personal development, and the curriculum we offer provides a very strong foundation for studying the subjects at a more advanced level. All students at the European Secondary Campus benefit from access to state of the art classrooms, specialised teaching spaces and, of course, experienced teachers with strong subject and curriculum knowledge.
IGCSE - International General Certificate of Secondary Education
The two-year IGCSE programme commences in the first year of High School. All students have access to enriching learning opportunities designed by teachers to prepare them for the IB Diploma Programme and, ultimately, entry to some of the world’s best universities and courses.
IGCSE stands for International General Certificate of Secondary Education. Each IGCSE subject is a qualification in its own right and most students finish their second year of High School with up to 10 internationally-recognised qualifications.
Some subjects are prescribed, whereas others are chosen. The breadth of study is a key element which helps students to make more informed choices about their IB subject options. Find out more about the different subjects in our IGCSE Curriculum Overview Booklet.
The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme
We are proud to be an IB World School and to offer all of our students the opportunity to engage in one of the world’s most innovative educational courses for 16-18 year olds: the two-year IB Diploma Programme. The Diploma is focused on personal, professional and academic development, and is globally recognised for the holistic and rigorous education it provides. The in-depth study of subjects in the final two years of High School requires commitment, organisation and initiative. Find out more about the different subjects in our IB Curriculum Overview Booklet.
The IB Diploma Programme emphasises high academic standards in mandatory areas of literature, a second language, mathematics, humanities and science. Academic excellence is coupled with an emphasis on personal development in areas such as research, the theory of knowledge, and social awareness.
When students graduate from the British Secondary and High School, they are very well prepared for the next step in their academic career, attending some of the best universities around the globe.
