Student Leadership

An essential aspect of our students' holistic development is ensuring that they are given opportunities to have a say in how decisions are made here at our school. These opportunities allow them to learn important leadership skills; helping them to become proactive young men and women who know how to stand up and show up to make a positive difference.

Here at BPS, we offer a range of student leadership roles which students can apply to be part of as they move through the primary school.

Student Leaders

Student Council Representatives

Students from Y2-6 can put themselves forward to be the school council rep for their class. They attend bi-weekly meetings with the head of school where they bring issues and suggestions from their classmates for discussion. They are also involved in Tribe assemblies and events and together make a powerful team to effect change on behalf of students.

Eco Committee Reps

Students from Y3-6 can put themselves forward to be a part of the Tri-Section Eco Committee which meets once per month and also organises the yearly Eco Week. This group of students works with the school to promote sustainable environmental practices and to help make our school greener in every way.

Sports Leaders

Sports Leaders are chosen from amongst the Y6 cohort and they are trained to referee and mediate sporting activities throughout the year. They help out during sporting competitions and during our sports days.

Student Meditators

Additionally all students in Y6 are expected to take turns being student mediators across the campus. This role entails helping out during lunch and break times to ensure students play safely and nicely with one another and look after the equipment which is put out for use. Mediators can be identified by their distinctive orange vests.

Our Tribes

The Tribe System has been fully developed throughout the British Primary School and has arguably become one of its most distinctive characteristics. The names of the Tribes are based upon four indigenous groups within Taiwan: Paiwan, Rukia, Ami and Bunan. It is central to the sense of community and atmosphere within the school, allowing opportunities for student autonomy to occur and creating a vertical pastoral structure where pupils of different ages are grouped together.

Students at Taipei European School quickly embrace the benefits of their Tribe which has a positive impact on their personal development. Our Tribes are effectively family units with responsibilities falling to older pupils to care for and support younger pupils. During the numerous competitions between the Tribes, a sense of comradery and belonging can be seen between the close-knit Tribe communities. A variety of leadership roles and responsibilities fall to the School Council reps who gain the opportunity to lead the tribes during tri section tribe activities and events.
